Practice!

Ok, so after many late night practices and TPBand concert (which i feel i screwed up terribly) yesterday, I woke up really early today to go to NAFA. Heard Sharon and Mel played their pieces beautifully, had a very delicious lunch together and rushed back tampines for laoshi’s lesson.

Those who knows laoshi would agree that it’s super inspiring to listen to her talk. There’s always so much wisdom in her words and it almost always motivates me to want to rush home immediately to practise flute!

Anyway, I shall make this commitment to practise everyday for half an hour minimum. Go slowly, go one step at a time, never to rush techniques and work hard!

Enlightened

I feel very enlightened.

Well, I do not know how to put it exactly but it’s like I never truly realised how fortunate I am. I’m blessed with things that the people here couldn’t even dream of. We fight for our rights while they could hardly speak of it.

It’s now then I realised how much good things I’ve missed and time that I’ve wasted.

And, I thought I understood it all until I’ve experience it for myself.

National Band Competition

Just a quick note to congratulate:

Temasek Polytechnic Concert Band for obtaining GOLD medal and the champion for first division National Band Competition (NBC)
Hai Sing Catholic School Concert Band for obtaining Gold medal for third division NBC
Meridian Junior College Symphonic Band for obtaining GOLD and third placing for open division NBC

I’m really proud to be once/still part of these fantastic musical groups! Do continue to work hard for greater heights!

Not so noble after all

Why should I be responsible for causing a change you decided upon yourself? Especially when you talked about having learnt to be responsible for the exact same thing.

I shut myself from you because I do not appreciate you to probe into certain aspects of my life. Yes, you can deny the actual probing-into-my-life thing. But what you can’t denied is that you had, more than once, asked too much that makes me very uncomfortable. It would be fine if you could stop there. Nevertheless, you sometimes insisted upon it even though I’ve make it clear that I do not want to share it with you.

Who are you to talk about deceptions? It became all too apparent that you approached me too many times with hidden agendas. I’ve been perfectly transparent to you about things that actually matters until I realised all these scheming-behind-my-back going on. And then, I realised you judged me as explicitly as I express my thoughts to you. You even conveniently and completely misunderstood my intentions thinking all I wanted is to get things to go my way.

I do not know if you realised by now it’s not your help that I really wanted. You keep insisting on emotional help that I do not need because you do not understand what I’m going through and you occasionally insisted on tangible needs that I had to reject stubbornly even if it might be a great relief to me.

Leave it at that and perhaps we can still smile and greet each other when our paths cross.

Things have been going pretty fine for me. Even if things are going tough, I have a bunch of wonderful friends I know I can always fall back on. I promised to be better to you all.

Many things happened over the weeks. Things that really make me very unhappy. I am, however, not willing to talk about them because I do have my considerations. While I do not want to sound like I’m a lead character from some tragedy or something, I am really affected by a large extent.

Argh, I’ll get over it. What I need is time. Give me the space I needed to sort things out on my own because I don’t like being interferred too.

Alright, I do feel like an idiot. Congrats on making me the biggest idiot of the century. I can’t say much for others. But for you, I daresay I’ve done quite a lot of things in your favor. You probably don’t see it because those aren’t meant for you to see. Nevertheless, it’s purely trust that I placed on you that I insisted against even the very strong opinions of my own fellow comm members. I honestly didn’t expect anything in return. Well, I obviously didn’t see that coming either.

Anyway, think of me whatever you wish. Spare the conductor of your insults. I’m sure Mr Tan got all the wisdom not to get affected by what you said but it’s a great injustice done to him afterall.

And, sorry to disappoint you (or whoever is reading this) because I’m not going to go on about who’s more mature and such. You’ve made your decision, I respect that, so please move on.

I will change, definitely. Not for your sake obviously. Not even for TPBand’s sake. It’s for myself. Just that the “better me” isn’t going to be what you have in mind, I’m quite sure.

On behalf of your friends who are still in band (who are my band members too) and the band, I thank you for your well-wishing. I’ll take it that it’s sincere and free of sarcasm.

Stressed

Well, I never felt more stressed over a concert before. Other than the really really challenging repertoire that we are doing, I’m also playing the piccolo for this concert.

I didn’t really regret it until I finally have to play “Internal Combustion” during a combine rehearsal. It’s really really tough and I totally have no control over my tone, volume, intonation and everything on piccolo at that range.

I guess I’m really lucky it’s not Ms Sia conducting it. Haha.

Temasek Polytechnic Band Concert was great!

I know we didn’t sound fantastic. I know some secondary school band could have trashed us 26 times over (wow). I know. But the concert is definitely not a flop. : )

Here’s some of the great things I personally think are for our concert:

1. Sales of ticket. We have a full house! It’s the first time ever TPband have a full house concert. That alone is worth celebrating for. Our members really went all out to sell the tickets. I’m very very impressed with that.

2. Members in our band do worked really really hard. Most of us comes from different secondary schools and backgrounds. Yes, not all our players are great. Nevertheless, I can safely say we really did our best. Some of them practised so hard that I feel so ashamed for not practising as much. Sacrificing their breaks and time coming down to the bandroom to practise even on non-practice days. They may not sound excellent or may even screw up the solo totally, but the effort all the soloists put in are great.

3. Great improvement since last concert. We may not sound fantastic today but I do see great improvement. Mr Tan thinks so too! We will continue to raise our standard of playing and we will eventually sound good. : )

4. Production crews were fantastic. I’m really lost trying to liaise with the production crew because I do not have the slightest idea what are the things they do. As a result, they had to deal with many last minute changes because of us. Yet, they put it off so well. Everything run smoothly and was so nicely done.

5. So are the business ambassadors who helped us. They are great too and really professional!

6. Not forgetting all the non-performing helpers. Who so willingly agreed to help out despite being deprived of properly watching the concert.

Hence, I really wanna thank all who had helped out to make this concert a great success. Things will only get better from now on. : )
