I really wonder why are there so many flautists around. The new J1 flautists attended their first sectional with us today. There are 7 of them! It’s not that I do not welcome them to the family, they are nice people too, but because flute section really is not meant to be big in size like the clarinets. A flautist will know why. I can already imagine Ms Sia screaming at the soon-to-be flute section for being too loud and not in tune.
When I first entered Meridian Junior College Band, I was really amazed by how many times Ms Sia could scold a section in a single practice. I remember clearly that she complained us for being too loud on a part of ” Invictus” where the notes are already so low(meaning hard to project) and where we had reduced to only 1 person playing the part. Now, imagine having 13, if I’ve not mistaken the number, flautists.
During the sectional today, we had sort of a mini-audition to decide who to play the 1st part. I believe many of the J1s need to work a lot on tone because it’s really not nice. Some of them also lacked support. It’s agreed that 3 of them will be playing the 1st part with us. Hopefully, we will work equally well and efficient like before.

Finally revived my computer after I stupidly crashed the system. Because of that, a large portion of my band mp3s are gone(argh!). My pictures are not spared too(double argh!). Well, here’s one reason CDs and photos are better.
Anyway, my new timetable is the best timetable ever! I couldn’t believe my own eyes when I first saw it. School actually ends at 1.45 p.m. everyday except on thursday for me. It’s even better than secondary school!
I figured it’s time to change the layout of the site for it has been around for ages. Thanks to my new timetable, I am able to spend more time working on my site now. I had installed a webserver on my computer to test-drive the my theme for wordpress. Will see what I can come out with.

I went back to HSCBand today. While I’m there, I realised that I have become relatively patient compared to before. I would have shouted at my section if they were to give me that type of attitude a year back.
There are supposed to have sectionals today but the SL is not around. Since I thought he is a very responsible person, I assumed he was absent or attending some extended lesson and, hence, did not press on to find out where he was. Qiyun was not there too. They told me that they did not know why she did not turn up, which I later found out that she went to celebrate her birthday. It’s fine not playing for concert for being oversea. But this? It’s ridiculous.
I was observing how they had their sectionals (even while I’m eating the muffins). Candice, being the most “senior” there, did not take the initiative to conduct the sectionals. She even declared that she’s not playing for the concert this coming June and hence need not practise(or not as hard). Of those present, at least 4 of them had musical background and I’m disappointed that no one suggested for the section to play together. They should be self-sufficient enough or even more qualified than me to figure out the notes and study the rhythms.
Also, instead of practising hard for their new song, El Camino Real, I heard the section(namely Jermaine whom I remembered distinctly and some others I can’t recall exactly) playing excerpts and parts from “Postcard”. I do not mind if they are good players. Apparently, none in our section, at this moment, is anywhere near that standard.
